Tiny place, friendly staff, good pad thai & service..
This place has pretty good food, but I definitely have a number of complaints. One, our fried tofu came out cold. Literally, cold. No one wants to eat cold fried food, especially tofu, which should really come out piping hot and in smaller pieces. The tom kha gai (coconut milk soup) came out with gigantic peppers in it...the peppers are fine, but they had much more peppers than anything else, there were no red pepper flakes, curry powder or ceyenne in it, so it was not spicy at all.
Moving onto entrees. My pad thai was pretty good, though the shrimp was pretty fishy, which tends to happen sometimes at these inland restaurants. The stir-fried tofu in the pad thai was delicious...some of the best ever. One thing I do like about this place is that they bring over a four-cup sampler, with red pepper flakes, ground peanuts, sweet & sour sauce and hot sauce and leave it at the table. Good portion of pad thai, good seasoning, though the sauce was a bit more brown and had more soy sauce in it than pad thai usually does.
That said, the curry my boyfriend ordered could've really used some more umph. It was so mild and lemonny, not what red curry is supposed to come out like at all. It was yellow. Not even close to red. It had almost no flavor and was good in itself, because it was nice, sweet, mild curry, but he ordered red curry and wanted something stronger.
The inside of the restaurant is really nice, the staff are incredibly friendly and the service is pretty good. There's a big parking lot in back, which is somewhat rare for New Paltz and you usually have to drive around for awhile to find parking. Overall, it was pretty good. The worst part was the cold fried tofu. Otherwise, I'll probably go back again sometime.
