Ulster >Miron Liquor & Wines
Bad wine. Poor selection, low end quality, and most of all, if the wine you bought is defective you will not get your money back, only an exchange. Shop for wine else where.
Big Box liquor store with poor selection and poor help.
This is a very square and sparse big box of a store. It Looks like there might as well be auto parts or fertilizer lined up along the walls or in stacks in the middle of the floor. Miron aspires to be the Walmart of liquor -- limited selection of middling quality. It's the opposite of a neighborhood wine and liquor store.
So, anyway. I couldn't remember what liquor went in a Manhattan -- was it bourbon, rye, possibly canadian whiskey. I asked someone from the store. "I don't know". So I said OK, is there a book around. "Nope". So there not so great with expertise, maybe their virtue is price or selection. Nope. The selection of bourbon is POOR and included very low value choices like the pretty lousy Evan Williams or whatever its called and no Early Times (a remarkable value). I figured out what liquor you need for the Manhattans but they only have a few average quality, low value bourbons.
Do not go to Mirons looking for someone to suggest a bottle that's a good value or of particularly high quality. They don't know. Don't go looking for an aesthetically pleasing shopping experience. Unless our tastes run to AutoZone and Home Depot.
Go to a store that gives a damn instead.
I left with nothing and went to the liquor store down the street. It's a bona fide mom and pop store with a pretty big selection of well chose wine and liquor -- it's not just a warehouse. It's next to Kings Wok Chinese Restaurant (which is great by the way).
