The Scene
This is the kind of resort wholly dedicated to your health and well-being, from the inside out. Guests are kept busy with everything from meditation at the crack of dawn to intensive yoga and tai chi throughout the day. Optional activities include trail hikes, acupuncture workshops and participation in an ancient Native American cleansing ritual called the Sweat Lodge.
The Details
The property is located on 280 acres in the Catskill Forest Preserve. It includes eight miles of hiking trails and the Unami Lodge. Rooms are intentionally sparse. There are no televisions or telephones, all the better for gazing inward at the soul. The five-story Alpine Tower helps people overcome mental barriers through physical exertion. But be careful about working up an appetite: Three meals a day come largely from the on-site greenhouses and garden and are fixed to a total of approximately 1,500 calories.
